Job Summary


Design, build, repair, and improve tooling, fixtures, prototypes, machine components, and automation systems to increase safety, quality, throughput, and reliability throughout the factory. This position is ideal for a hands-on manufacturing professional who enjoys solving problems, building things, and working closely with engineering and production teams to bring concepts to life.


Key Responsibilities

Prototype Development & Engineering Support

  • Build prototypes from engineering concepts, sketches, and CAD models
  • Collaborate with engineering to develop and test new products, tooling, and manufacturing processes
  • Reverse engineer existing components and assemblies as required

Tooling, Fixtures & Process Improvement

  • Design, build, modify, and maintain production tooling and fixtures
  • Improve manufacturing processes through creative problem-solving and hands-on implementation
  • Support setup reduction, quality improvement, and productivity initiatives

Manual Machining

  • Operate manual lathes and vertical milling machines
  • Manufacture replacement machine components, tooling, and prototype parts
  • Perform precision measurement and inspection
  • Select tooling and establish machining methods
  • Work from GD&T drawings, sketches, samples, and verbal concepts
  • Reverse engineer worn, damaged, or undocumented components

Surface Grinding

  • Set up and operate precision surface grinding equipment
  • Select and dress grinding wheels
  • Hold close tolerances and surface finish requirements
  • Build and utilize fixtures for grinding operations
  • Work with tool steels, hardened materials, and precision components

Fabrication & Welding

  • Perform MIG welding and general fabrication
  • Cut, drill, fit, and assemble fabricated components
  • Modify machine frames, guards, and production equipment
  • Construct fixtures, tooling, and support structures

CAD & Design Support

  • Utilize Fusion 360 or similar CAD software
  • Create and modify tooling, fixtures, and machine components
  • Generate manufacturing drawings and documentation
  • Support engineering design and prototype development activities

Machine Building & Maintenance

  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems
  • Work with bearings, shafts, power transmission systems, and machine assemblies
  • Support pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Install sensors, actuators, and machine improvements
  • Assist with machine rebuilds, upgrades, and automation projects

required qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing, toolroom, prototype, maintenance, or fabrication environment
  • Strong manual machining experience on engine lathes and vertical mills
  • Surface grinding experience
  • MIG welding and fabrication experience
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings including GD&T
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience using precision inspection and measuring equipment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Preferred

  • CNC setup, operation, and basic programming experience
  • CAM programming experience
  • Fusion 360, SolidWorks, or similar CAD experience
  • PLC troubleshooting experience
  • VFD experience
  • Servo and motion control familiarity
  • Industrial maintenance experience
  • Manufacturing automation project experience
  • Experience supporting custom machinery and equipment
